CASE STUDY

Ground Movement Assessment – 3 Storey Basement, London

Ground and Ground and Project Consultants were commissioned to undertake a ground movement assessment for a proposed three-storey basement in London.

Following an assessment of ground conditions, GPCLs role was to determine the impact of installing a secant piled wall and excavating the basement to a depth of 11m.

GPCL undertook a series of analyses to assess potential ground movements including Finite Element Modelling (FEM) and an assessment using CIRIA C760 guidance. Our analyses determined that the potential movements caused by the construction of the basement to the surrounding properties were satisfactory. As part of our work, movement trigger values were set to be used during the construction process and advice was provided on the construction methodology for the basement
