Slope Remediation Design – Cumbria

Ground Ground and Project Consultants Ltd have developed innovative solutions to a problematic slope on a housing development adjacent to a live railway in Cumbria.

The development had been commenced on treated filled ground with a 4-5 m high unimproved slope down at the railway boundary, with some properties being constructed close to the slope edge.

Ground and Project Consultants carried out characterisation and slope analysis of the existing slope. In discussion with the client Network Rail and the building contractor we proposed a solution and developed an outline design consisting of gabion walls and a reinforced earth slope. We advised the client on procurement and risk management for the 300m long structure which was successfully constructed in 3 months.
